The Locomotives of the Class 50 Alliance
The Class 50 Alliance owns three class 50
locomotives; 50035, D444 and 50049 and administers one more; 50031 on
behalf of two members. All are based on the Severn Valley
Railway, and when resident there, maintenance is carried out in the yard at
Kidderminster.

50 035 "Ark Royal"
"Ark Royal" was the first class 50 to be preserved,
it was purchased at a time when it looked as though the class was to be
run down slowly resulting in only a few good examples being available for
preservation.
Ark Royal is currently out of service undergoing repairs.

50 044 "Exeter"
"Exeter" was originally to be purchased as a
source of spares for 50035, but during the investigations prior to
purchase it became clear that despite having been at Stratford depot (in North
East London) for some considerable time for component recovery, she was almost intact.
Exeter is now operating on the SVR in preparation for re-certification for main line running.

50 031 "Hood"
This locomotive was purchased in near operational condition, having been withdrawn with
only minor faults.
"Hood" has made history on several occasions,
most notably in November 1997 becoming
the first main line certified preserved class 50 on RailTrack (now Network
Rail) metals when
it hauled The Pilgrim Hoover railtour
.

50 049 "Defiance"
This locomotive was purchased for preservation by Project
Defiance. Following time spent on the West Somerset Railway it was moved to the
Severn Valley Railway. It is currently mainline certified
