50031 Hood
How
all railway locomotive preservation begins; with transport from the scrap line
to the preservationists chosen site. In this March 1992 photo 47361 is preparing
to leave Plymouth Laria depot with 50031 for The Fifty Fund and 50027 destined
for the MHR.

In
early 1999 a serious power unit problem was detected in 50031. The culprit was a
damaged cylinder head, this photo shows the damage that the broken head caused
to the piston. For size comparison it is shown next to a 125cc motorcycle piston
and a 50 pence piece.

Following
repair 31 was tested under load on the Severn Valley Railway before returning to
South Wales. On the return leg of the test run Hood crosses the elegant Victoria
Bridge, just to the north of Bewdley.

EWS' Old Oak Common depot. Our thanks to EWS and their employees who aided us
during our stay there.
