50044 Exeter

As purchased 50044 stands beside sister 50021 (right, in large logo livery) in the component recovery lines at London's Stratford Depot. Both locomotives escaped the cutter's torch, other locomotives that visited Stratford what not so lucky.

44 on the jacksAfter arriving at the Severn Valley Railway Exeter was immediately put to work. Unfortunately on one of the first runs she flashed over a traction motor, and was consequently reduced to four motors for the rest of the season.

A spare motor was found and overhauled, and when Exeter appeared at Tinsley Open Day, the staff there found the time on the Jacks to allow Exeter to be bought back to full operational condition. Our thanks to all concerned.

April 1996 was the last time since preservation that Exeter carried her name and TOPS number in preservation. Here she is on the last day in charge of a Kidderminster to Bridgnorth Service.

Repainting in the rain, Kidderminster style. Hopefully by the end of 2001 a purpose built diesel shed will have been erected in this location making the use of sheets of plastic a thing of the past.

After a minor overhaul and repaint D444 emerged. Prior to the first run on the SVR 50031 and D444 occupy the turntable road in the yard at Kidderminster.
