50 049 "Defiance" "Defiance" was bought for preservation by Project Defiance. Following purchase, it spent time at AWS in Cardiff having an overhaul before moving to the West Somerset Railway. During its time on the WSR it was repainted into the Railfreight Distribution two tone grey livery as 50149. Defiance left the WSR to attend the Severn Valley Railway Diesel Gala in 1999 and didn't return home.
After a short period as D449 in BR blue during which time '49 undertook its first mainline run in association with the Fund's own Hood on the Celtic Hoover Railtour. Since then Defiance has been touring the UK both on the mainline and in the popular large logo livery.
